In the Barcelona team locker room, Xavi “has introduced a new rule,” according to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo.
It says nobody can challenge Xavi’s technical choices. For instance, Frenkie de Jong will play as the defensive midfielder for as long as it’s the best choice, and Jules Kounde will play at right-back for as long as Xavi wants him to.
The former members of Barca are included in this. They must accept it if Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, or Gerard Pique are benched.
Since Xavi is the team’s head coach and is aware of what is best for the team, this rule makes sense on the one hand.
On the other hand, long-term conflicts might result from this. For instance, Kounde frequently tells the media that he feels far more at home at center back than at right back. Pique, on the other hand, is thrilled to finally see more action in games than he did at the start of the year.
Furthermore, suggestions from seasoned players frequently result in victories. What if Xavi decides not to listen to them any longer?
