Many big European clubs have made it a duty to do their businesses early and this has seen the completion of so many big transfer deals at the early stages of the summer transfer window.
Big players like Antonio Rudiger, Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic, Erling Haaland, and Darwin Nuñez have completed moves in the current transfer window.
It would be silly to rank those transfers as good or bad at this stage, we would be taking the risk of naming the best deals as big players join big clubs:
Philippe Coutinho – Aston Villa
Philippe Coutinho spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa and the loan move was absolutely successful. This has seen the English Premier League club make the move permanent for £17 million.
In 19 appearances in the English Premier League for Steven Gerrard’s side in 2022, Coutinho scored five goals and provided three assists. He has definitely shown his quality and offered some moments of absolute brilliance and he would be looking to resuscitate his career next season.
Ivan Perisic – Tottenham Hotspur
Ivan Perisic decided against renewing his contract with Inter Milan and he immediately became the most sought-after free agent in the transfer window. He has, however, decided to reunite with his former Inter Milan manager, Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
Perisic excelled under the Italian coach in Inter Milan’s Serie A winning 2020-21 season. At 33 years old, Perisic might be walking into the twilight of his career but he definitely still has enough quality to shine in the Premier League for a few seasons.
Perisic can play in a variety of roles down either flank. He can play as a left forward, left wing-back, left-back, right forward, right wing-back, and right-back.
Aurelien Tchouameni – Real Madrid
Real Madrid turned to Aurelien Tchouameni after they missed out on Kylian Mbappe. They were able to get the French midfielder for €100 million with add-ons.
Tchouameni has shone for AS Monaco in the past two seasons, developing into one of the best defensive midfielders in the world and he would be looking to form a formidable partnership with Eduardo Camavinga at the heart of Real Madrid’s midfield.
Antonio Rudiger – Real Madrid
Antonio Rudiger was Chelsea’s best defender last season but when Real Madrid came calling, the German defender’s head was turned as he decided against renewing his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world over the past couple of seasons. He is undoubtedly a great addition to the Real Madrid squad and would be strengthening an already impressive defense. The 29-year-old will join the likes of David Alaba, Eder Militao, and Nacho to battle for a starting berth in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup.
Erling Haaland – Manchester City
Erling Haaland’s move to Manchester City is surely the most interesting transfer deal in the summer transfer window so far when one looks at his impressive goal-scoring record and the devastating goal-scoring ability of Manchester City even without a recognized striker.
The English Premier League club activated his release clause, which stood at around £67.5 million, and pipped several European giants to his signature. Haaland is just 21 years old and with the way he has played throughout his short career so far, the sky is the limit for him.
He has left Borussia Dortmund after scoring 86 goals and providing 23 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions for them.
Which transfer deal do you think has been the best in the current transfer window?
