The bids for Chelsea are in, and the frontrunners are beginning to emerge as consortiums compete to take control of the Premier League club.
The Ricketts Family, owners of the MLB’s Chicago Cubs, are said to be heading to the United Kingdom for the next stage of their bid. According to the London Evening Standard, the Ricketts Family is flying to London to meet with several groups and reassure worried fans’ who have expressed concern about their potential ownership.
A shortlist of bidders is expected to be finalized as soon as Tuesday (March 22), and things will continue to move quickly as Chelsea aims to have new owners in place as soon as possible.
Bids (the majority of which are expected to exceed $2.5 billion) had to be submitted to The Raine Group by 5 p.m. Friday, March 18th, at 8:00 a.m. ET
Due to his close ties to the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, current Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been forced to sell the club after being sanctioned by the UK government and having his assets in the UK frozen.
