Antonio Rudiger was in the thick of the action for Chelsea in their Champions League game against Real Madrid in Spain.
The prolific defender was brilliant on the night and despite Chelsea winning the tie 3-2, the Blues who lost the first leg at home 3-1 crashed out of the tournament.
A stunning moment came in the second half when Rudiger was caught fuming with N’Golo Kante over a mistake he did.
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was furious with N’Golo Kante during the cause of the Champions League match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, SportsBible reports.
The centre-back had to clear the danger as Los Blancos almost took advantage of Kante’s mistake to find the back of the net.
English club Chelsea played brilliantly but were unlucky to crash out of the Champions League quarterfinal after a massive performance in Spain.
Luka Modric’s moment of brilliance broke the Blues’ hearts as they would have won in normal time, and then Karim Benzema did what he does best and scored the game-winning goal in extra time.
Chelsea had a monumental task in overturning a 3-1 first-leg deficit, and they did so spectacularly, going 3-0 up away from home, only for Modric to provide the ball of the night for Rodrygo to tie the aggregate score.
Kante gave the ball away in the build-up to the incident, and when Benzema scored the winner, it was the former Leicester City midfielder who was late to close down a loose ball in midfield.
Rudiger, whose contract with the club ends at the end of the season, concentrated on the errors made by his players over the two matches.
He told BT Sport: “Over the two legs if you make these kinds of mistakes you get punished.
“It was a do or die for us. Before the game not everybody thought we could get to 3-0 but then the individual class comes to light with Modric and Benzema, now we are here.
“The positive is we didn’t give up. Not many teams can come here and dominate them as we did.
But over the two legs if you make the mistakes we did, you get punished.”
