Reason Why Barcelona Will Play 2023/24 Season Away From Camp Nou

Barcelona has announced that it will play the 2023-24 season away from Camp Nou while the European club’s largest soccer stadium undergoes a major renovation.

Barcelona will play its games at the municipally owned Llus Companies Stadium, according to the club.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Olympics were held at the stadium, which has a capacity of about 60,000 spectators.

After receiving final approval from the city, the club announced that its long-delayed project to restore and refurbish Camp Nou, which now seats 99,000 people, will begin this year.

Next season, games will continue to be held at Camp Nou. After spending the following season away from Camp Nou, the club wants games to return in 2024–25, but with a 50% reduction in attendance due to construction. The club intends to complete the stadium renovations in time for the 2025–26 season.

The club plans to increase the capacity of Camp Nou to 110,000 people while also renovating the surrounding area, which includes a pavilion for the club’s other sports, a museum, and retail outlets. The project has a budget of 1.5 billion euros ($1.57 billion).

From 1997 to 2009, Barcelona’s crosstown rival, Espanyol, played at the Llus Companies Stadium. The stadium sits at the top of a small hill with views of the Mediterranean city, and its field is surrounded by an athletics track.
