In a rivalry that stretches back to last year, Toni Kroos copied Mason Mount’s gesture at the end of the Champions League quarter-final second leg.
The Chelsea player slammed the German when the Blues were eliminated from the Champions League last season, and the German finally got his retaliation.
Kroos studied Thomas Tuchel’s team when the Real Madrid-Chelsea clash was drawn last season.
“Individually, no player has made me lose sleep in 15 years,” Kroos said at the time. “They play well as a team, but I couldn’t single out any of them.”
After defeating Los Blancos 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals, the England midfielder used the opportunity to send a message to the German in the mixed zone.
“I saw one of your players say that no individual player was keeping him awake at night. Maybe he should lose sleep over our team. We could have scored more than five goals,” he said.
“Still sleeping ok. But well done yesterday,” Kroos responded. “Congrats. Good luck in your first CL (Champions League) final.”
Real Madrid, on the other hand, eliminated Chelsea this season, and Kroos earned his ‘revenge.’
Real Madrid TV cameras caught a scene during the full-time celebrations, when Kroos was seen emulating Mount’s action, with his palm on his brow and his gaze down on the ground.
