Nigel Pearson, Sky Sports commentator dies aged 52

Nigel Pearson, a Sky Sports commentator, died at the age of 52. After joining the broadcaster over a decade ago, the iconic darts commentator has become a fan favorite.

He was also a well-known speedway pundit and presenter, as well as a football lover and a die-hard West Bromwich Albion supporter. In a statement, Sky Sports’ Executive Director of Content, Steve Smith, confirmed the terrible news: “Everyone at Sky Sports is thinking of Nigel’s family and friends. Nigel was a great broadcaster with a distinct voice who was adored by our viewers for many years across darts and speedway. His unique technique elevated the sports he covered by bringing profound knowledge and expertise to his presenting and commentary. His many friends and colleagues at Sky will be devastated by his death.”

Rod Studd, a darts commentator who works with Pearson, remarked on Twitter: “The most awful and desperately sad news. I have many fond memories of time spent in Pancho’s company. My love and condolences to Nigel’s family and friends.”

Matt Porter, the Professional Darts Corporation chief executive, said: “We’re all deeply saddened to learn that Nigel has passed away and send our sympathies to all who knew him.”

“Nigel was an extremely popular figure across darts and a range of sports and well-respected throughout the media for his unique style. He’ll be missed by us all.”

Pearson also worked with British Speedway as their press officer, and was a big fan of West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
