The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by the Black Stars in Abuja on Tuesday, despite playing on home soil.
Nigerian fans have resorted to social media to express their displeasure with coach Augustine Eguavoen after the Super Eagles were denied a place in the 2022 World Cup finals after a 1-1 draw with Ghana on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles needed to win the return leg match at MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja after a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, but they were unable to do so as the Black Stars advanced on the away goal rule.
In the “Jollof derby,” it was the Black Stars who struck first, taking a deserved lead through Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey in the 10th minute before Watford defender William Troost-Ekong equalized from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute.
When Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored in the 34th minute, Nigeria felt they had grabbed the lead, but he was flagged down for offside, and the judgment was upheld by VAR.
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the competition in Qatar comes just months after they had a disappointing campaign at the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where they failed to advance past the Round of 16 after losing 1-0 to Tunisia, again under Eguavoen.
Following the current result, some Super Eagles fans have called for coach Eguavoen’s head, while others have called for him to quit or be sacked, while some have labeled him the worst manager to ever command the national side.

Augustine Eguavoen should never coach the Nigerian team again in his life. They should chase all those ex players away from the team and get real professionals
