The Dutchman has shot off speculations that he could go to Bayern Munich, claiming that he is content where he is.
Frenkie de Jong has stated that if Barcelona offered him a six-year agreement, he would sign it, adding that he enjoys his time at Camp Nou.
The midfielder joined the Blaugrana from Ajax in 2019 and has established himself as a regular over the past three seasons, but without the silverware dominance, he had hoped for when he arrived.
However, the Netherlands international seems unconcerned with his lack of silverware too far and, despite reports of interest from Bayern Munich, believes he intends to continue in La Liga for the long haul.
What has been said?
“I love being at Barcelona,” the Dutchman told ZiggoSport when asked about his future.
“I’d probably sign a six-year contract extension if they’d propose me, yes.
“Something happening with FC Bayern? No, no. I am so happy at Barcelona and I would love to play here for as long as possible.”
De Jong’s Barca career to date
De Jong has been one of Barca’s most consistent performances since coming from Amsterdam to the Catalan club, even while the team as a whole has struggled to reach the heights of the previous decade and a half.
Last season, he won his only trophy at the club, the 2020-21 Copa del Rey, and this season, he has helped fill the creative hole left by Lionel Messi’s surprise departure at the end of last summer.
With Barca’s passage to the Europa League quarter-finals now assured – and Xavi’s side probably reaching their stride at the right time – De Jong will be looking for a piece of European silverware to round off his time at Camp Nou.
