Carlo Ancelotti has made history by becoming the first manager to win a top-flight title in each of Europe’s big five leagues with Real Madrid’s 2021-22 La Liga victory.
The 62-year-old has won 22 trophies in his long management career, including victories in England, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany.
With a 4-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday, Madrid clinched the Liga title with four games to spare, thanks to a Rodrygo brace and goals from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema.
It was a momentous day for the team, but it was also a significant personal victory for their management.
Ancelotti guided AC Milan to the Serie A title in 2004, a year after they won the Champions League.
It is, perhaps shockingly, Ancelotti’s sole league triumph in his native Italy, with his next top-flight title coming with Chelsea in 2010, when he led the Blues to Premier League glory.
He won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 before winning the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in 2016-17.
In his second stint as Real Madrid coach, he has finally been able to lift the Liga trophy, with Los Blancos clinching the title with four games remaining.
During a spectacular management career spanning more than 25 years, Ancelotti has now won a total of 22 trophies.
