Felix Afena-Gyan made history as a member of the Black Stars squad that qualified for the 2022 World Cup.
Two years ago, the AS Roma forward was just a high school student with football dreams.
After helping the Black Stars reach Qatar 2022, the 19-year-old has now made it to the world’s biggest sporting stage. Felix Afena-Gyan had no idea he’d be playing in Europe, let alone Italy, just a little over a year ago.
However, a year later, he is a star at AS Roma. He was just a schoolboy in Ghana with a passion for football and enormous talent, and life was good for him, as it was for many other kids in Berekum.
Afena-Gyan is seen dancing and enjoying himself at Berekum Presec in an old video that appears to have been taken a year ago, and this has sparked a lot of discussions.
He had a trial with AC Milan, but Roma saw the potential in the teen sensation and immediately snatched him from under their rivals’ noses. AS Roma signed him to their youth team, and he shone in the Primavera league.
His outstanding performances drew Jose Mourinho’s attention to the youth team, and he invited him to the senior team shortly after.
Mourinho refused to let the then-18-year-old return to the youth team after three first-team games, insisting he is staying with the senior side.
