Chelsea has a tradition of buying quality players during transfer windows but they have done some mistakes in the past.
Here are five footballers rejected by Chelsea for odd reasons.
1. Kylian Mbappe
Definitely one of the best players in the world, with a big future ahead, Mbappe has all the attributes that a forward should have.
But Chelsea didn’t agree. At the age of 13, Mbappe had a trial at Chelsea, but they didn’t accept him because he couldn’t defend.
2. Sergio Aguero
A Manchester City legend and one of the best strikers in the English Premier League history.
In 2009, while playing for Atletico Madrid, Sergio Aguero scored 2 goals against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.
They then showed interest in signing him but didn’t because of his body shape, according to Andy Cole.
3. Declan Rice
Rice was a player Chelsea already owned but they released him at the age of 14, because of his physicality.
They surely regret that decision now because they want to sign him but West Ham United will only sell him for around €100 million.
4. Kevin de Bruyne
Kevin de Bruyne was a Chelsea player for two years.
He was signed under Jose Mourinho but Mourinho didn’t fancy him and Kevin de Bruyne ended up playing less than 8 games for Chelsea in 2 years and he was sold to Wolfsburg before being bought by Manchester City.
5. Mohamed Salah
Just like Kevin de Bruyne, Salah was also signed by Jose Mourinho and let go.
He didn’t get any playing time and was regarded as a flop. He was loaned to Fiorentina in Italy, then he signed for AS Roma before joining Liverpool FC in 2017.
