Paul Gascoigne, one of England’s greatest players, only spent four seasons in the Premier League. Everton had two of those seasons, while Middlesbrough had two.

Although the football legend’s career did not feature any English league championships, he won two league titles during his three years with Rangers in Scotland. 

The Argentinian was a major player in Liverpool’s second-place finish in 2008/09, but his time at Anfield remained unsuccessful until he moved to Barcelona in 2010.

He is, however, well-liked at Anfield, and would be delighted to return. 

Although his best days were spent with Manchester United before the Premier League’s inception, he was still capable of battling injuries to play regularly for Aston Villa in the revamped English top flight’s early days. 

He won two title cups and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year Award during his time at Villa Park, but despite his team being in first place, he couldn’t help them win the league, something he had failed to do at United. 

Given his reputation as a domineering centre-back who ranks among the best the Premier League has ever seen, Jamie Carragher’s career is all the more remarkable when considered.

He was a utility man in his early years, being deployed in midfield or full-back as frequently as he was in the position he is now synonymous with.
