In this article, I will reveal 5 African players who instead of playing for their country naturalized and played for Italy.

1. Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli Barwuah is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Süper Lig club Adana Demirspor and the Italy national team.

Balotelli started his professional football career in 2005 at Lumezzane, before joining Inter in 2007.

He won the treble (Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League) in 2010.

Balotelli reunited with Inter manager Roberto Mancini at Manchester City in 2010, helping them win a Premier League title and FA Cup.

He moved back to Italy in January 2013, signing for AC Milan, before returning to the Premier League with Liverpool 18 months later.

Following a return to Milan on loan, Balotelli departed to France, playing for Nice and Marseille in Ligue 1.

He returned to Italy a third time, joining Serie A club Brescia in summer 2019, and Serie B club Monza in late 2020.

The following summer, Balotelli signed for Turkish club Adana Demirspor. Mario Balotelli is originally from Ghana.

2. Moise Kean

Bioty Moise Kean is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Serie A club Juventus, on loan from Premier League club Everton, and the Italy national team.

Kean started his career with Juventus in 2016, winning a domestic double in his first season with the club.

He spent the following season on loan with Hellas Verona before returning to Juventus the next season, winning another Serie A title in 2019. In the summer of that year, Kean joined English side Everton.

In 2020, Kean was loaned to French club Paris Saint-Germain. In 2021, Kean returned to Juventus on loan.

At the international level, Kean made his senior debut for Italy in 2018.

He is the second youngest goalscorer for Italy in a competitive match, behind Bruno Nicolè.

He is originally from Ivory Coast.

3. Stephan El Shaarawy

Stephan El Shaarawy is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Serie A club Roma and the Italy national team.

He is nicknamed Il Faraone, as his father is Egyptian.

El Shaarawy began his career at Genoa, and was signed by Milan in 2011 after a successful loan at Padova.

Frequently regarded as one of the most promising youngsters of his generation, El Shaarawy had his breakthrough in the first half of the 2012–13 season.

Following several long periods out of action due to injuries, he spent the 2015–16 season on loan with Monaco and subsequently Roma, signing permanently for the latter club at the end of the season.

Internationally, El Shaarawy represented Italy from under-16 to under-21 levels.

In August 2012, he made his debut for the senior team in a friendly against England, and in November of that year scored his first international goal against France.

He represented Italy at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, where they finished in third place, and at UEFA Euro 2016.

4. Ramzi Aya.

He is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Serie B club Reggina. He is of Tunisian descentna.

On 13 August Maritato was sold to Vicenza in co-ownership deal for a peppercorn fee of €500.

Aya followed the footsteps of Maritato to leave Florence on 31 August 2011 also for €500 in co-ownership deal.

The club failed to find a buyer for its youth product, which Aya forced to returned to Reggiana.

Fiorentina failed to sell Bettoni, N.Manfredini, and Edoardo Pazzagli who did not play any game in 2011–12 season.

5. Michael Ntube

Michael Ronaldo Mboe Ntube is an Italian footballer who plays as a defender for Serie C club Albino Leffe.

Born in Italy, Ntube is of Cameroonian descent.

He was first called up to represent Italy in 2016 with the Under-16 squad.

With the Under-17 team, he was called up to the Under-17 Euro qualifiers, but remained on the bench and was not selected for the final tournament squad.

With the Under-19 team, he appeared in the Under-19 Euro qualifiers, but the final tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe.

He was raised in the youth system of Inter and represented the club in the 2018–19 UEFA Youth League and 2019/2020 UEFA Youth League.

On 24 August 2021, Ntube joined AlbinoLeffe on a permanent deal.
