The names of the top ten most expensive African players in football transfer history, including Salah and Mane, have been revealed.
Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe is the most expensive African player in football history. Victor Osimhen, who joined Napoli from Lille last summer, is second on the list, with Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez rounding out the top three.
According to Transfermarkt, Pepe is the most expensive African player of all time. The Ivory Coast international moved to Arsenal from Lille in 2019 for a club-record €80 million fee. He hasn’t always lived up to expectations in London, but he showed promise at the end of last season.
Former Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon) and Thomas Partey (Ghana) made the top ten after joining the London club for €63.8 million and €50 million, respectively, from Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
Paris Saint-Achraf Germain’s Hakimi has been named. After completing a €60 million move from Inter Milan, the Moroccan full-back moved up to sixth place.
Hakimi and Osimhen are the only non-Premier League players on this list.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah finished eighth, just ahead of Liverpool teammate and Senegal captain Sadio Mane.
